Your account has been disabled. What about tomorrow?

In collaboration with Mishkan (@mishkan.tech). An account suspended without a reason, WhatsApp accounts blocked in waves in Israel, legal games pulled under pressure from payment processors, a map of "Zionist" businesses in Barcelona: our groups, our payments and our addresses live on someone else's property, and they can lock the door without warning. Mishkan is a home of our own.

"Your account has been disabled." No reason given, no one to talk to. Any account can get that message tomorrow morning. And it is not the only way to lock a door.

## Instagram, November 2023

On November 29, 2023, Instagram suspended the account of the Jewish news outlet JNS for 180 days, without warning, citing "deceptive practices." Other Jewish and Israeli accounts went down the same day. They came back after JNS contacted Meta.

## WhatsApp, summer 2026

This summer in Israel, WhatsApp accounts were suspended in waves, with no explanation; the cause was never established. On September 6, a request to certify a class action was filed in the Lod District Court, accusing the app of cutting off individuals and businesses without warning, explanation or a real appeal.

## The payment processors

In July 2025, Steam and then itch.io pulled perfectly legal games. Valve said its payment processors required it, citing a Mastercard rule; Mastercard denies it. No law had changed: an activist campaign was enough.

## A map of "Zionist" businesses

In January 2026, an online map called "Barcelonaz" listed more than 150 businesses, schools and organizations in Barcelona that it labeled Zionist, and invited users to add more. It was hosted by a French platform, GoGoCarto, which took it down after complaints.

## Tenants

Our family and synagogue groups, our payments, our addresses all live on someone else's property. As long as the landlord agrees, everything is fine. Mishkan is another answer: messaging, the Mem, which can't be bought, and a directory of more than 8,000 Jewish addresses (kosher restaurants and shops, synagogues, mikvehs, schools) that lives on your phone and works offline. Mishkan also goes through the App Store and Google Play; but inside, the rules are ours. Free on iPhone, Android and Mac.
